About Me

The basics… my name is Chuck, I’m 29 years old, and I’m gluten free.

My gluten-less journey began back in 2006. I never really had any stomach problems until then, then suddenly it struck. I would have nausea and diarrhea 3-4 times a week after meals. I was also constantly tired and irritable.

This went on for about a year. I lost 20lbs over this time (which in my case was not a good thing). It got to the point where I didn’t want to go out to eat with friends or family anymore because of the negative experiences I was having. I had heard of celiac disease but didn’t think that was it because at the time I was just thinking "gluten = bread", I didn’t realize it was so much more.

Eventually my primary care doctor referred me to a specialist (gastroenterologist) to do some tests. Shortly thereafter my blood work came back positive for celiac disease and a biopsy was scheduled. This would eventually confirm my diagnosis and start my life on a gluten free diet.

I have been gluten free for over 3 years now. Its been challenging, frustrating, demanding, and inconvenient – but overall I’m just happy to have my health back.
